Family and Domestic Violence increased to 10 days Paid Leave

The House of Representatives yesterday, October 27, 2022, has voted to increase 5 days unpaid Family and Domestic Violence Leave (FDV) to 10 days paid leave, and now forms part of the National Employment Standards. Accordingly, it will apply to every employer and employee in the Federal system.

It is the first federal statutory right to paid leave for FDV, after the Coalition legislated a five-day unpaid entitlement in 2018.

Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke told Parliament this morning, minutes before it passed, that the legislation "will not by itself solve the problem of domestic and family violence, but it does mean that no employee in Australia will never again be forced to make a choice between earning a wage and protecting the safety of themselves and their families".
